Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met on Thursday with US mediator Amos Hochstein, and the accompanying delegation in the presence of US Ambassador Dorothy Shea.

For his part, Hochstein stressed that “it was a constructive discussion with Berri, with whom he had several meetings over the past ten years,” adding that “he has always appreciated Berri's sincerity, frankness and efforts, which helped in reaching what we have reached today.”

In response to a question about whether the results of the Israeli elections might affect the fate of the agreement, and if there were any observations made by Berri on the understanding, Hochstein indicated that “Berri has played a leading role during the last ten years in this, noting that he has met him several times during this period.”

In response to a question related to the Israeli elections, he explained that “these elections are not the first and they are not the last, and there will be elections at other times.”

Hochstein went on to say that “it is an understanding between two governments and will remain regardless of subsequent elections and successive governments.”

“I am not worried about the implementation of this understanding, regardless of the results of the elections, and regardless of who will be the next president of Lebanon, I am sure that this understanding is secure and protected, and it must be implemented by all parties,” the US mediator highlighted.
