Mikati: Dealing with the file of the displaced in a political way will leave negative impacts

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday that the enormity of the situation requires quick and serious work in order to get the necessary funding to aid the displaced.

Mikati called for taking appropriate decisions to face any possible developments that might force concerned parties to take difficult choices that require potentials that outweigh the human, institutional and financial capacities available to the Lebanese government.

Mikati stressed during a ministerial meeting that the Lebanese government saw a great divide, since the first day, in regards to the Syrian crisis between its political stance which is based on self-distancing and the humanitarian position based on providing the required assistance to the displaced Syrians.

The prime Minister added that the government, in all its ministries, did not differentiate in dealing with the Syrian file seemingly since it is a humanitarian issue, and considered that targeting any ministry in a political mean would leave negative impacts.

Earlier, Mikati met with the Finance Minister Mohamad Safadi and discussed with him the general situation in the country.

He also met with the minister of Transportation and Public Works Ghazi al-Aridi and discussed with him issues related to his ministry.
