Association of Muslim Scholars: To lift siege on Arsal, form investigation committee

The Association of Muslim Scholars called on Sunday for the formation of an investigation committee to reveal the circumstances of the Arsal crime, calling on the LAF to lift the siege on the town to avoid confrontations.

Sheikh Salem al-Rafei, who read the Association’s statement also called for the release of Sheikh Yehya al-Hojayri, warning against the fabrication of charges against innocents.

“I fear that some are trying to create a conflict between Arsal residents and the Lebanese army,” he said.

On Friday, a Lebanese army patrol was attacked by unidentified gunmen in Arsal. Major Pierre Bachaalany and First Seargent Ibrahim Zahraman were killed during the attack, while several other soldiers were wounded.
