Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt believed on Tuesday that Washington can restrain Israel if it wishes to do so. 

In an interview with RT, he questioned the fate of the Gaza Strip residents who fled to the south of the region at the start of the Israeli military operation. He stated that Israel aims to displace a significant number of Gaza Arabs voluntarily or forcibly, echoing the tragedy of 1948 when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were expelled.

Jumblatt held the countries supporting the Israeli aggression, especially the United States, responsible for a serious ceasefire, not just a humanitarian one, to pave the way for a political solution. However, he noted that, based on Israel's statements, the war of killing and extermination against the Palestinian people continues.
Regarding a truce, he emphasized its futility amid the ongoing catastrophe, with 20 destroyed hospitals and 16 thousands of casualties. Jumblatt asserted that the United States has the power to restrain Israel since it provides weapons, bombs, and annual financial support to Israel.
Responding to questions, Jumblatt mentioned that Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah spoke twice since the beginning of the aggression, indicating support from Lebanon. He emphasized the need to avoid being drawn into a war with Israel, urging respect for the rules of the game.
Jumblatt criticized the attempt to displace Gaza's majority to Sinai or Egypt, considering it a national and catastrophic attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause. He cautioned against repeating past mistakes, highlighting the leaders of Jordan and Egypt, who would not accept any deals that compromise the Palestinian cause.
