Aoun: Today is the happiest day in Lebanon's history

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that the rights of those who have been marginalized for so long have finally been returned, commenting on the approval of the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral law by the joint parliamentary committee earlier today.

"Today is the happiest day in Lebanon's history; it restored the rights of some parties without undermining the rights of the others," he said in a press conference he held following his bloc’s weekly meeting.

Aoun stressed that the Lebanese Forces and Kataeb should not be "blamed" for their decision to endorse the Orthodox law, adding that alliances are political "not matrimonial."

"We are adamant on holding the upcoming parliamentary elections on time, contrary to what some may say," he said, adding that the real fear lies with "those who worry that we may win the majority of seats in the elections."

On the failure to submit the ranks and salaries scale to Parliament, he said  "while the country is facing a strike, I am against taking money from the poor to grant those less fortunate."

“There are several sources that can fund the pay scale, without further burdening Lebanon’s poor with taxes,” he said.

On his previous statement on Bahrain, he said "my opinion cannot be taken as interference in the country's internal affairs," stressing that he did not call for an armed revolution
