Marwan Abboud to LBCI: We are in the process of appointing new driving committees

The Governor of Beirut and the acting Director-General of the Traffic Management Authority, Marwan Abboud, confirmed that the fire in Vehicle Registration Center in Dekwaneh resulted from electrical contact due to the poor condition of the building, and that the fire was not arson and that the papers that were destroyed by the fire had no effect.

In an interview with the LBCI’s “Nharkom Said" TV show, Abboud said that running the public facility requires money, employees, and a conducive environment and that they are not available.

He said, “We inherited all the deficits of the past years and they suddenly exploded towards us.”

“Brokers work, and we, according to the law, cannot prevent citizens from authorizing them to complete administrative transactions, and we have not renewed their licenses and we will not,” he added.

Concerning the issue of driving licenses, he stated: “We are in the process of appointing new driving committees, and employees are currently being prepared at the Internal Security Forces Institute to train them on traffic law. We are also preparing the centers to make them suitable for applicants and to conduct driving exams.”

Abboud emphasized that the Traffic, Machinery and Vehicles Management Authority is linked to the state, and that if privatization occurs , it will not be comprehensive, but rather related to specific technical works.
