Bassil launches Jannat dam works

Energy Minister Gebran Bassil launched on Friday the first stage of Jannat dam works in the region of Nahr Ibrahim.

“It is one of the biggest neighboring dams in the region.” Bassil said, adding that it has a storage capacity of 38 million cubic meters of still water and 95 million cubic meters of flowing water.

Bassil noted Lebanon has lost at least 210 million cubic meters from this river, pointing out that the ministry of Energy is aware of all the matters related to the project on every level.

In this context, the minister stressed that the aforementioned project will not be launched unless it is covered on the technical, scientific and environmental levels, stating that this dam along with Bassri and Al-Awli projects will solve the water problem in Mount Lebanon and Beirut over the next 50 years
