REPORT: Mufti Qabbani files lawsuit for falsifying Higher Islamic Council session's minutes

Lebanon's Grand Mufti Mohammad Rachid Qabbani filed on Thursday a lawsuit before the State Appeal Prosecution in Beirut against an unknown on charges of falsifying the minutes of a session of the Higher Islamic Council that was devoted to the body's mandate extension.

It is worth mentioning that PM Najib Mikati held a meeting on Wednesday with former premieres whereby they aimed at paving the way for the Higher Islamic Council to continue its work, until the election of a new council, calling on the incumbent council to hold a session, in the presence of all its members.

The officials were adamant on steering Mufti Qabbani clear of disputes, personal interests and narrow accounts, and urged Qabbani to respond to this call since his refusal to collaborate with the heads of government will entail measures.

The elections of the Higher Islamic Council are expected to take place on the 14th of April, while the dispute is still ongoing between the members of the council and Dar al-Fatwa.
