Hajj Hassan: Land transportation dossier requires urgent political solution

Caretaker Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan expressed on Tuesday his concern in regards to the land transportation dossier, pointing out that such problems require a political solution along with high level political contacts in order to ensure the national interest of all Lebanese citizens.

Minister Hajj Hassan said that the problem is no longer related to exporting Lebanese products, but also related to imports since Lebanon imports most of its products via land routes as opposed to shipments.

In this framework, Hajj Hassan said that 20% of the total Lebanese exports are transported to Syria and mentioned that land exports to Jordan, Iraq, and other Arab countries have come to a stop.

“Some exports cannot be transported by sea since their competitive worth in various markets will decrease due to the high cost of shipping,” the Minister concluded.
