Berri names MP Tammam Salam to head consensual national government

               
Speaker of the House Nabih Berri declared Friday following a meeting with his Development and Liberation bloc in Ain el-Tinneh the naming of MP Tammam Salam as candidate for the Premiership of the next "national consensus government", calling for a turning of the page “for Lebanon’s salvation”.            
“This is a new phase between the majority and opposition and we call on both sides to work for the interest of the nation. We hope his nomination will pave the way to a brighter future,” Berri said.

This as sources told LBCI that the March 8 forces will also be likely nominating Salam for the position of Prime Minister.

The March 14 alliance and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt announced on Thursday their support of Salam to head the new cabinet.               

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun is set to express his stance following the Change and Reform bloc's meeting later on Friday.            

Binding parliamentary consultations to name a new prime minister designate to form a new cabinet are scheduled to take place with President Michel Suleiman on Friday afternoon at the Baabda Palace.               

The consultations will continue on Saturday.
