Berri highlights the importance of forming political cabinet

House Speaker Nabih Berri said on Wednesday that if members of the parliament’s subcommittee fail to agree upon an electoral law, he will be calling for Parliamentary General Authority sessions from the 15th until the 19th of May to reach a new law.                

Following the Wednesday periodic meeting, Speaker Berri said that he supports any electoral law agreed upon by all parties and called on them to reach a new law during a period of one month.                              

On another note, Berri said that Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam was consensually nominated highlighting the importance of forming a political cabinet in accordance with articles of the constitution.                               

In this regard, Berri stressed that the cabinet should be a government of national reconciliation capable of dealing with the upcoming challenges.

Also in Ain el-Tineh, Speaker Nabih Berri met with the Head of the Democratic Party MP Talal Arslan who expressed his commitment to national reconciliation regarding the formation of the cabinet.              

In this regard, MP Salam hoped that PM-Designate Salam would form a national unity cabinet representing all political parties in order to pass the upcoming stage and the parliamentary elections.          

As for the electoral file, MP Arslan said that Lebanese parties should agree upon a new law pointing out that Speaker Berri is capable of safeguarding constitutional institutions.
