Residents in Hermel to defend themselves should they feel abandoned by the state

National and Islamist forces as well as Lebanese parties held on Monday a meeting in Hermel at the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party office whereby they denounced "the mortar shells launched by 'Syrian gunmen' on the town of Hermel", calling on the Lebanese State and President Michel Sleiman to protect citizens.

In this context, the statement issued following the meeting, confirmed that "the residents in Hermel will defend themselves should they find themselves abandoned by the Lebanese State".

For his part, Hermel Mayor Sobhi Saqr called on the security apparatuses to take all the needed measures in order to stop the attacks on civilians in the town, warning against the repercussions of 'such crimes'.

It is worth noting that the shelling on Hermel targeted a building where a dozen Syrian refugees live, adding that the public and private schools closed their doors since the beginning of the Hermel incidents.
