MP Ghanem: Parliamentary elections will not be held on schedule

      
The head of the parliamentary sub-committee, MP Robert Ghanem stressed on Thursday that the Parliamentary Communications Committee "did not surrender easily”, noting that while the final meeting aimed at exerting further efforts for the electoral law, it yielded little results.       

In an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV Show, MP Ghanem said that “Hezbollah did not take any decision but instead paved the way for the Free Patriotic Movement to agree on a settlement”, adding that the Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun did not suggest any proposal.    

On the other hand, Ghanem said “the Future bloc suggested a draft law despite the fact that the bloc opposed the proportional system from the onset. Therefore, the bloc took a step forward alongside the Lebanese Forces, the Kataeb party and the Progressive Socialist Party."     

In this context, MP Ghanem said that if the draft law proposed by Speaker Nabih Berri were suggested, an agreement may have been reached.         

In a question directed at MP Ghanem over the date of the upcoming parliamentary elections, he hoped that the parliament will defer the date of the elections for technical reasons, noting that “the elections cannot be held on June”, even though some parties agree on the 1960’s draft law.
