Jumblatt: This is the last time I run for party's presidency
The Head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt said that funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is key for Lebanon’s stability, adding that he understands reservations about its politicization.

In a speech held before the General Assembly of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), Jumblatt stressed the importance of respecting freedom of speech and political asylum.

“Lebanese territories are never to be used to harm Syria, and, at the same time, we oppose all violations against our territories no matter the pretexts”, Jumblatt said.

Jumblatt said that the disappearance of Chebleh El Aissami along with others at the hands of Shabiha affiliated with a diplomatic delegation is unacceptable.

Once again, Jumblatt called on all parties to engage in an open and honest dialogue to discuss the defense strategy, since only the State can protect and defend its citizens.

Jumblatt also urged the concerned authorities to conduct a new study to raise wages and devise an effective mechanism to control prices.

On the Syrian front, Jumblatt underscored the need for the Arab League road map, calling for ending the assault on Syrian security forces, withdrawing troops, releasing all political detainees and condemning foreign interference.

Speaking on internal party affairs, Jumblatt said: “This is the last time that I run for the party’s presidency. The leadership council will play a transitional role until new elections are conducted in one year’s time.” Jumblatt added that the candidacy will be open for all “comrades” wishing to run for the post.
