President Aoun: Lebanon ready to demarcate borders with Syria, Shebaa Farms to come last

President Joseph Aoun affirmed Lebanon’s readiness to demarcate its borders with Syria, noting that the Shebaa Farms issue will be addressed at a later stage.

He also stressed that the decision to maintain the monopoly of arms in the hands of the state has been taken and is currently being implemented.

The president highlighted what he described as “American and European satisfaction” with former ambassador Simon Karam leading the Lebanese delegation to the mechanism committee meetings, which manage sensitive discussions on the northern border with Israel.

Speaking on military matters, Aoun said, “In purely military terms, when any army engages in a battle and reaches a dead end, the next step is to turn to negotiations.”

On recent statements by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, the president emphasized that they are “rejected by all Lebanese.”
