Mikati confirms referral of pay scale to Parliament

        
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed on Monday that the series of ranks and salaries will be referred to the Parliament in compliance with the decision of the Cabinet issued during the last ministerial session, the state-run National News Agency reported.        

Earlier, Mikati met at the Grand Serail with a delegation from the Union Coordinating Committee (UCC) with talks featuring high on the file of the series of ranks and salaries.     

Following the meeting, Head of private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud said that the UCC will be holding a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to discuss the upcoming steps should the cabinet fails to refer the pay scale to the parliament.         

On another note, Caretaker-PM Mikati also held talks with a delegation of the General Labor Confederation headed by Ghassan Ghosn.       

On the 21st of March 2013, the cabinet agreed on referring the wage scale to the Parliament following weeks of nationwide protests.        

The Union Coordinating Committee had launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.         

Until now, the pay scale hasn’t been referred to the parliament.
