Italy's FM from Baabda urges de-escalation, offers to host Lebanon-Israel talks

Italy's foreign minister said he will engage with Iranian authorities in an effort to curb rocket fire by Hezbollah toward Israel, as part of broader efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

Speaking from Baabda Palace after meeting with President Joseph Aoun, the minister said Italy is committed to supporting the Lebanese people and displaced citizens, noting that Rome has already provided significant humanitarian assistance and plans to deliver additional aid in coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

He also said Italy is ready to host future negotiations aimed at achieving stability and peace between Lebanon and Israel.

The minister condemned Hezbollah's military attacks on Israel, saying such actions do not contribute to stability in South Lebanon. He expressed confidence in the Lebanese Armed Forces, emphasizing their role in safeguarding the country's unity and stability.

Reiterating his position, the Italian official said he would raise the issue with Iran, urging that directives be issued to Hezbollah's military wing to halt rocket launches. He stressed that Italy's goal remains achieving peace and facilitating an agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
