President Aoun calls for international assistance in clarifying fate of Lebanese detainees in Israeli prisons

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for increased international pressure on Israel to comply with international laws and agreements and to halt attacks on civilians and humanitarian personnel.

Speaking before a delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Aoun said Israeli violations in South Lebanon have continued despite the announcement of a ceasefire. He pointed to ongoing strikes, destruction of homes and places of worship, and a rising toll of casualties.

The president highlighted that the attacks have also targeted emergency responders, noting that around 17 paramedics from the Lebanese Red Cross and other aid groups have been killed so far, in addition to journalists.

Aoun praised the work of volunteers who continue rescue operations under dangerous conditions, describing their efforts as the highest form of sacrifice in the service of humanitarian principles. He stressed that many of these missions are pre-coordinated to ensure protection, yet are still being targeted.

He also renewed his call for international assistance in clarifying the fate of Lebanese detainees held in Israeli prisons, noting that Israel has so far refused to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross access to them to assess their condition and reassure their families and the Lebanese state.
