Ducks and other birds were seen frolicking and swimming in the lake that holds great significance to the residents of the area who claim the spring feeding the lake dates back 2,500 years.
Baalbek's municipality took advantage of the drought, subsequently cleaning the lake and changing the sewage system so as to prevent water contamination.
It's a bit of beauty in a country that has grown accustomed to tragic environmental stories. While the return of a natural source of water to an otherwise dry and arid area provides relief, other issues threatening our natural environment need to be made known and prevented.
