Netanyahu meets with Burns, King Abdullah in rare visit to Ramallah

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu held talks Monday with William Burns, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, to discuss the way to resume talks with the Palestinians, stalled for about a year.      

Burns ended his meeting with Netanyahu while Jordan’s King Abdullah II paid a rare visit to Ramallah, for the first time in more than a decade, to hold talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.    

Burns also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Sunday evening in Ramallah.    

According to Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, Abbas told Burns that he is ready for negotiations as soon as the Israeli government agrees to halt settlement building, recognize the 1967 borders as a reference for negotiations and delineate the borders of the Palestinian state including East Jerusalem.
