REPORT: Syrian president takes part in Eid prayers - state media

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad took part on Thursday (September 24) in Eid al-Adha prayers at the Adel mosque in Damascus, Syrian state television reported.

After the prayer, Assad told Syrian Television:"It is true, we in Syria, we have not tasted the taste of Eid in more than four years, but when we say Eid Mubarak, we say it because we believe in the blessing of Eid, and the blessing of faith in God, country, and people. This blessing is the only thing that can come to Syria and bring safety and security. So I conclude by saying Eid Mubarak and blessed Adha."

Syria has been living in war since 2011; more than 220,000 people have been killed and millions displaced, according to the monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
