US embassy in Beirut urges Americans to leave Lebanon amid volatile security situation

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut on Monday urged American citizens in Lebanon to depart the country while commercial flight options remain available, citing a volatile and unpredictable security situation.

In a statement, the embassy said airstrikes have occurred across the country, particularly in southern Lebanon, the Beqaa region and parts of Beirut.

The embassy advised U.S. citizens not to travel to Lebanon and called on those currently in the country to leave immediately. It added that individuals who choose to remain should prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be ready to shelter in place if conditions worsen.

The statement stressed that alternative plans should not rely on U.S. government-assisted departure or evacuation.

The embassy strongly encouraged U.S. citizens in southern Lebanon, near the borders with Syria, in refugee settlements and in Beirut’s Dahiyeh neighborhood to leave those areas immediately.

It noted that Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport remains open and commercial flights are operating, though cancellations may occur at any time. The embassy urged travelers to check directly with airlines for the latest flight information.
