The Vatican clarifies Pope Francis' stance on conflict in Ukraine
Pope Francis' stance on the conflict in Ukraine was clarified by the Vatican on Tuesday after Ukrainian diplomacy was upset by a statement about the daughter of a Russian intellectual. Pope Francis condemned what he called a "barbaric war waged by Russia" and condemned the conflict.
 
The words of the Holy Father on this tragic subject "should be read as a voice in defense of human life and the values associated with it, and not as a political position," the Holy See said in a statement.
