Macron to meet Jordan's king in Amman on Wednesday after visiting Israel

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday, with the aim of preventing military escalation following the surprise attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, and working to revitalize the "peace process."

It is expected that King Abdullah II of Jordan will receive Macron at around 11:00 local time (08:00 GMT), and there is a possibility of a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

On Tuesday, Macron visited the occupied West Bank and met with Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to express his support for the Palestinian people.

Macron assured Abbas that "the life of a Palestinian is of equal value to the life of a French or an Israeli," while calling on Israel to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza following the Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in over 1,400 casualties, most of them civilians, according to Israeli authorities.

Among the casualties were 30 French citizens, and it is believed that nine French nationals are missing and may be held by Hamas in Gaza.

He added, "I see and hear the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza," as the people of Gaza find themselves trapped under Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas.

President Abbas responded, saying, "President Macron, we implore you to stop this aggression."

Macron, whose country has faced Islamic attacks, has been keen to adopt a balanced policy in the region, seeking to play a role in the crisis.

The French President expressed his interest in reactivating the "political process" with the goal of achieving a "two-state solution," a Palestinian state and an Israeli state, living in peace and security side by side, according to the French presidency.
