US military says forces are ready to ensure freedom of navigation in Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Central Command said Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all vessels and that its forces are “positioned and ready” to ensure freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.

The statement came a day after an exchange of fire between U.S. and Iranian forces and Iran’s announcement that it was closing the vital maritime passage.
