[VIDEO] Bear Rescues Drowning Crow: When Animals Display Compassion

Our relationships with animals range all over the place because they are complicated, frustrating, awkward, loving, compassionate and challenging.

We always look at animals in wonder, write about them, draw and paint them, make decisions for them, and move them from here to there as we “redecorate nature.”

A Canadian team of neuroscientists showed that mice are beings that feel the pain and suffering of other mice. Mice who watched their cage-mates in pain became more sensitive to the same painful stimuli, indicating that they had a notion of what the others were experiencing.

Anyone who has worked with whales and dolphins knows they’re extremely emotional, and recent studies found out that many types of whales have specialized cells important in processing emotion and developing intelligent behavior.



Humans have spindle cells in the same brain regions, and previously these cells were thought to exist only in humans and other great apes. We’ve all read stories of dogs rescuing people in fires or even rescuing other animals.

After collecting hundreds of stories, a conclusion was made that animals follow their feelings as much as humans do, and the emotion behind animals’ actions can be compassion.
