REPORT: Impact of Syria’s entry to global anti-chemical weapons treaty
 
Syrian UN Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari said Syria became a full member of the global anti-chemical weapons treaty on Thursday, a move that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had promised as part of a deal to avoid US air strikes. 

The treaty, which is implemented under the supervision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) contains several items such as the prohibition of production and use of such weapons and the abstention from helping any state in the production and use of these arms.
