REPORT: Funeral for the latest victims of the Hermel blast held, as death toll of first attack climbs
A funeral was held in Hermel on Monday for the victims of the latest terrorist bomb attack that rocked the northeastern Lebanese town, amid an atmosphere of sorrow and grief.

The funeral for Ali Amir Alaou and Issam Kheireddine was held in the presence of Hezbollah MP Nawar al-Sahili with mourners chanting anti-terrorism slogans.

Low temperatures did not prevent thousands of families from gathering as the funeral procession headed from the town's Martyrs' Square towards the cemeteries.

On Saturday the 1st of February, an explosion took place at a gas station near al-Mabarrat school at the entrance of the Lebanese town of Hermel.

The state run National News Agency cited witnesses who said the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber who entered the gas station, leaving a metre-deep hole in the ground and setting the station and nearby cars on fire.

Caretaker Minister of Health Ali Hassan Khalil said that 3 persons were killed and 28 others were injured in the explosion.

Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon claimed responsibility for the attack. This is the second attack of its kind on the town, also known for its strong backing of Hezbollah.

The first explosion took place on January 16, killing at least one upon impact, and two who later succumbed to their wounds.

Just today, Citizen Mohamad Issa al-Hek was reported to have died of wounds sustained during the first explosion that rocked the town, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Mohammad who was admitted to the Jitaoui Hospital in Achrafieh, succumbed to his wounds in the morning, the agency added.

Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon had also claimed responsibility for the attack, citing Hezbollah's interference in the Syrian crisis as a motive for its actions.

The group pledged more attacks against Shi'ite areas, unless Hezbollah ceased all forms of interference in the crisis which has left neighboring Syria in shambles.
