REPORT: Head of the Association of Banks in Lebanon says US draft-law against Hezbollah will not affect Lebanese banks

The head of the Association of Banks in Lebanon Francois Bassil told LBCI on Friday that Lebanon's Central Bank and banks do not face any danger over the Congress draft-law against Hezbollah.

He also noted that all Lebanese banks are implementing the procedures related to anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.

He concluded by saying that the association sends a delegation to the United States every six months to brief the US administration about the step taken by the association to combat money laundering.

US lawmakers are pushing for new legislation that would impose economic sanctions on Hezbollah as they seek to halt the party’s sources of funding.

Hezbollah is a party that US lawmakers said continued to “pose a threat to the United States, its allies and interests throughout the Middle East, and well beyond.”
