REPORT: Patriarch Rai meets a Muslim-Christian delegation in Bkerke
The state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday that Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai met with a Muslim-Christian delegation from the Bekaa and North regions.

The delegation handed Rai a document on the need to reinforce coexistence and civil peace in the country.

It also stressed the need to support the Lebanese army and reject attacks against it.

It highlighted the importance of addressing “takfiri terrorism, urging the government to assert the principles of national unity among the Lebanese people.”

This also includes electing a new president and drafting a new parliamentary electoral law.

The delegation was comprised of families from Bekaa-al-Hermel, central Bekaa, Wadi Khaled, Akkar, and Bsharre.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since May when the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended.

Disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 alliances over a consensual candidate have thwarted the election of a president.

The majority of March 8 parliamentary blocs have boycotted the elections sessions over the dispute which led to a lack of quorum.
Rai  has frequently urged Lebanese MPs to elect a new president.
