REPORT: Health Ministry inspectors close sweets shop, food warehouse

Health Ministry inspectors shut down on Saturday a sweets shop and a food warehouse in Beirut and east Lebanon, the ministry declared in a statement.

An unnamed sweets shop in Taalbaya, east Lebanon, was closed after discovering rotten products and others with fake expiration dates.

Another team of inspectors also closed a food warehouse belonging to Adonis Spices in the Beirut suburb of Bir Hasan, the statement added.

The ministry also announced that a dairy products factory in the Bekaa Valley belonging Mustapha al-Shammouri has been giving the green light to resume work after an inspection carried out on Saturday revealed that all violations were corrected.

The Ministry’s steps come as part of a nationwide crackdown on food safety violations that Health Minister Wael Abou Faour launched last November.
