“We sought to respond to PM Salam in the same way in which he approaches us, through his blatant disregard of our principles,” he added.
On another note, he hailed the street protests that took place Thursday by Free Patriotic Movement supporters, noting that they have restored hope for the Christians in Lebanon.
“We are concerned at cabinet with the implementation of the constitution,” Bassil added.
“In the absence of a president for the country, his prerogatives are being unduly encroached and assumed by others,” he explained.
“We are accused of hindering state work when we try to defend Christian rights,” he added.
A heated dispute erupted between Salam and Bassil during Thursday ‘s cabinet session.
The parties later agreed to continue the debate over the cabinet's work mechanism after Eid al-Fitr.
The session was accompanied by protesters by FPM supporters near the Grand Serail.
The party's leader MP Michel Aoun has urged his supporters to organize rallies to reclaim the “rights of Christians.”
