REPORT: Cycle of violence in Syria deprives Aleppo of its unique identity

Aleppo, the second biggest city in Syria and the country’s economic country was highly affected by the cycle of violence sweeping through the entire nation.        

In this historical Syrian city, waste piles can be seen in the middle of the streets and power lines are downed.       

The economic situation in the city was affected by the fights; while schools and businesses are closed, the price of bread, which is basically the food of the poor, has increased six folds since the beginning of the war. In light of the absence of heating means, some burned books or furniture or even chopped off trees to stay warm in the cold winter.          

The residents of Aleppo which turned into a capital for the rebels who have control over 90% of it, fear of falling victim to famine, extreme cold and what they described as “the corruption of the fighters”.
