Cameras were able to catch the moment a football player was struck by lightning in Peru in the middle of a match.
A 21-year-old player for Sport Aguila, a Peruvian football club, Joao Contreras Fuentes was playing during a semifinal match of the Copa Peru football tournament when the lightning bolt hit the field, the BBC reported.
In disturbing footage from the incident, the lightning bolt appears so quickly that only a cloud of smoke is seen around Fuentes as he collapses to the ground.
According to the UK's Daily Mirror, the lightning strike also injured a nearby assistant referee.
Despite initial reports claiming that Fuentes had died after the lightning strike, the Sport Aguila player is very much alive and recovering in the hospital, as is the assistant referee.
