MP Marwan Hmadeh called on the Arab and international community to tackle the issue of the genocidal massacres perpetrated by the Syrian regime on its people across Syria especially in northern Damascus' Qalamoun region.
In an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Seyassah on Tuesday, the MP pointed that even with limited means, Syrian military aircraft raids on Lebanon should be dealt with by the state otherwise the Lebanese Armed Forces' deployment on the eastern border of Lebanon would be void of meaning.
Separately, MP Hmadeh noted: "Through its practices, Hezbollah announced its separation from Lebanon, the institutions, the people and national interest."
"The only possible government to be formed is a neutral government that doesn't belong to any party, that is capable to address the people's concerns and is not subject to any political force's authority," he concluded.
Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour warned against the continuous influx of Syrian refugees to Lebanon stressing that it is becoming a prohibitive burden at a time when previous waves were not dealt with properly.
"More refugees are expected in light of the continuous Syrian crisis and this means we are heading for the worst due to the Lebanese state's incapacity to tackle the issue with all its implications," he reflected in an interview with As-Safir newspaper on Tuesday.
In this context he added that it was the duty of super powers that are seeking to hold the Geneva II peace conference to handle this humanitarian issue and push for a cease-fire in order to stop the influx towards Lebanon.
One of Tripoli's neighborhood leaders in Bab al-Tebbaneh, Ziad Alouki assured that the northern city's residents welcome the security plan as well as the members of security forces as they consider themselves under the rule of law, the state and its President Michel Sleiman. On another note, Alouki added: "The 'other' party considers Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to be its chief," he said in reference to the residents of Jabal Mohsen.
European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton stressed in a discussion with As-Safir newspaper on Tuesday, that the Syrian and Iranian files will be tackled separately during the Geneva II peace conference.
Ashton pointed that the aim of the talks with Iran is very clear and her role on behalf of UN's security council, is to lead the negotiations to ensure confidence in the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program. Separately, Ashton added that discussions concerning the Geneva II peace conference are ongoing.
An-Nahar newspaper reported on Tuesday that the debate during the meeting that was held between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Kataeb MPs in parliament yesterday (Monday), was spontaneous, honest, and positive.
During the meeting, all subjects were raised; from the role of constitutional institutions, to the dilemma of the political void, passing to regional and international influences on the decisions regarding Lebanese internal affairs. On another hand, differences emerged between the two parties when moving to practicalities whereby Kataeb MPs raised the issue of Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian crisis, to which the Free Patriotic Movement replied: "It's important to separate the Lebanese priorities from external conflict as all parties are intervening in Syria".
