Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq stressed on Monday the need to control the security situation throughout this critical phase, calling on all Lebanese parties to act as such.
In this regard, Mashnouq urged them to ease political tension and avoid stalling on outstanding issues such as the series of ranks and salaries.
The minister also told As-Safir daily he was reassured that coordination is taking place between the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Internal Security Forces' Information Bureau and the General Security.
He added that tireless efforts being exerted have befuddled terrorist groups and obstructed their movement.
A source at the Lebanese delegation which has accompanied Prime Minister Tammam Salam to Kuwait, quoted the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as saying that his country is following up on the situation in Syria.
"Lebanon is the most affected by this tragedy as it is overburdened by hosting [a huge number of] Syrian refugees," Al-Sabah was quoted as saying.
The same source told Al-Liwaa daily that Salam discussed with the Emir of Kuwait the Lebanese situation as well as the accomplishments his government has made in terms of controlling the security situation and finalizing the long-stalled administrative appointments.
PM Salam also thanked the Emir of Kuwait for helping Lebanon in addressing the Syrian refugee crisis, the source added.
Sources close to the National Struggle Front told Al-Akhbar newspaper on Monday that the meeting held between Democratic Gathering bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Future Movement leader Saad Hariri tackled contacts between the Future bloc and the Free Patriotic Movement.
Hariri told Jumblatt that dialogue with Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun is not related to the presidential elections but to other issues, the same sources said.
In this regard, Jumblatt stressed that he will not support Aoun in the presidential race, noting that he is adamant on the National Struggle Front candidate, MP Henry Helou.
"The election of a new president is a priority amid the current phase," a source at the Lebanese Forces told Asharq al-Awsat daily on Monday.
"The LF cannot elect Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun since he is not a consensus candidate," the source said, adding that the Lebanese Forces' political program completely differs from that of Aoun.
The same source also noted that MP Aoun did not give any positive signs during negotiations with Future Movement leader Saad Hariri.
