Lebanon's cabinet to lay out plan to follow up on Health Minister's file

"The Lebanese cabinet is set to agree on a full-fledged plan to follow up on what Health Minister Wael Abou Faour has started," ministerial sources told Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday.

"This move will be done on the basis of coordination among the ministries in order to preserve the interests of citizens, tourists and employers as well as the whole economic sector," the sources said.

Health Minister Abou Faour warned Tuesday of unsuitable foodstuffs being sold to the Lebanese public, and listed violating supermarkets and restaurants across the country.

Monitoring campaign launched by Health Minister 'not over yet' -sources

Sources at the Health Ministry told Al-Joumhouria daily on Thursday that the monitoring campaign that was launched Tuesday in a press conference held by Health Minister Wael Abou Faour is not over yet.

"The campaign will be completed upon the receipt of new results," the sources noted, saying "it will not be limited to stores selling meat and chicken but will also include bakeries, pastry shops, as well as other restaurants and food providers".

"1,005 organizations have been detected and results of other food providers that have fallen short of meeting the proper health standards will be announced upon finalization," the same sources added.

Health Minister Abou Faour to unveil new list of violating organizations

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said he will hold today a press conference whereby he will unveil other organizations selling unsuitable foodstuffs in the Keserwan and Baabda Districts.

"The number of food providers ranges between 10 and 12," Abou Faour said, in an interview with As-Safir newspaper on Thursday.

The minister also noted that the Interior Ministry is responsive with him, adding "it has tasked the concerned apparatuses with implementing measures against violating organizations".

Detainee Ahmad Mikati's aide confesses to being involved in terrorist plot -sources

Official sources close to investigations with Ghali Hadara, the aide of detainee Ahmad Salim Mikati, told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Thursday that Hadara made important confessions that go in line with that of Mikati and other detainees.

"Hadara confessed to being involved in a terrorist plot that aimed to control a number of northern towns as a prelude for linking them with other areas held by cells affiliated with fugitive terrorists Chadi al-Mawlawi and Oussama Mansour," the sources concluded.
