Derbass says Lebanon’s decision to impose visa on Syrians aims to ease refugee burden

Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass said a decision whereby Syrian nationals will be required a visa to enter Lebanon is part of the measures that have already been taken by the government to ease the burden of Syrian refugees.

In an interview with Asharq al-Awsat newspaper on Sunday, Derbass said this decision will allow the Lebanese authorities to differentiate between refugees and non-refugees, noting that “any two states would implement such measures”.

“The entry and exist of Syrians shall be organized so that the Lebanese authorities’ new strategy could be enforced,” the minister said, adding “the Lebanese state did not close the border or deport any Syrian refugee”.

Second Hezbollah-Future dialogue session to be held on Monday

Lebanon’s Shi’ite group Hezbollah and the Future Movement are set to hold a second dialogue session in Ain El-Tineh on Monday (January 05).

In this regard, well-informed political sources told An-Nahar daily that the attendees are due to begin their meeting by assessing the outcome of the first dialogue session and the reactions that ensued.

“The reactions showed that the first session has managed to ease tension amongst both sides,” the same sources added.
