New measures at borders with Syria aim at limiting influx of refugees - Minister Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass stated on Thursday that the new measures implemented at the borders with Syria will not be applied on nationals who hold refugee cards or those who are registered at the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In this regard, Minister Derbass explained to As-Safir newspaper that these refugee cards grant Syrians immunity inside Lebanon; however, noted that the new measures will be implemented on holders of these cards once they leave the Lebanese territories and decide to return at a later time. He also stressed that these measures aim at controlling the influx of refugees into the Lebanese territories, stressing that Lebanon may no longer bear the social and economic repercussions of this increasing flow. Sheikh Massri: All religious communities should participate in talks aimed at releasing soldiers Mediator in the dossier of abducted soldiers Sheikh Wissam Massri stressed on Thursday that all religious communities and political parties should be engaged in negotiations aimed at securing the release of soldiers. In this regard, Sheikh Massri told As-Safir newspaper that certain sides and officials who are not taking part in negotiations are hindering any achieved progress. He also emphasized that this dossier should be resolved at the soonest time possible, pointing out that it is having negative repercussions on displaced Syrians in Lebanon. UNHCR aware of reasons that urged Lebanon to limit influx of refugees - Official UNHCR Representative in Lebanon Ninette Kelley stated on Thursday that what was announced by the Directorate General of General Security on the 31st of December regarding the influx of refugees was a formal recognition of the measures taken by the government to control the entry of Syrians into Lebanon. In this regard, Kelley told An-Nahar newspaper “we were expecting these measures,” pointing out that these procedures were previously declared. She also stated that the UNHCR fully understands the reasons that urged the Lebanese government to put in force these restrictions, calling on officials to clarify measures that will be taken later. Third Hezollah-Future dialogue session to be held on January 16 Al-Joumhouria newspaper stated on Thursday that the third dialogue session between the Future Movement and Hezbollah will be held on the 16 of January. In this regard, the newspaper noted that officials will proceed with discussing conflicting matters that are increasing tension in Lebanon, adding that representatives of both parties vowed to continue these sessions in a positive atmosphere.
