Minister of Interior Nouhad al-Machnouq told An-Nahar newspaper on Friday that the campaign to remove party banners and photos from Beirut and several cities is a first step toward Lebanon’s stability.
Minister al-Machnouq added that the security plan will be implemented in the Bekaa region in the near future.
According to the daily, the campaign was carried out under the supervision of Speaker Nabih Berri, Minister Machnouq and other concerned authorities.
Sources told As-Safir newspaper on Friday that advices were given to an embassy of a Gulf country in Beirut to tighten its security measures and to remain on high alert.
The same sources added that the Lebanese security apparatuses obtained information stating that the Islamic State group is planning to carry out a double suicide attack targeting the mentioned embassy.
The attack will reportedly be carried out by three suicide bombers from different Arab nationalities. According to the daily, the sources added that cooperation between the security apparatuses and the embassy is ongoing in this regard.
French Ambassador to Lebanon Patrice Paoli denied to An-Nahar newspaper on Friday that Paris was drafting a United Nations Security Council Resolution against Hezbollah.
“There is no conspiracy against anyone. We are plotting to boost Lebanon's security,” he added.
Paoli reiterated France’s call to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty and resolution 1701.
Sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper on Fiday that a Hezbollah delegation will visit today (Friday) Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun to commemorate the inking of the memorandum of understanding between the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah.
The same sources added that the relation between the two sides is currently at its best stages.
