Prime Minister Tammam Salam told An-Nahar newspaper on Thursday that he will not tackle the mechanism of the decision making process at the cabinet before reaching common ground in this regard with the main political powers in the country.
Salam added that he is deploying efforts to activate the work of the cabinet, noting that the so called “ministerial veto” thwarted the issuance of some decisions by the cabinet.”
Sources told al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Thursday that former Prime Minister Saad Hariri will not attend the ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the assassination of former PM Rafic Hariri at Biel in downtown Beirut for security reasons.
The same sources added that a delegation from the Future Movement visited Hariri last Tuesday in the Saudi capital Riyadh and discussed with him the content of Hariri’s televised speech set to be delivered during the anniversary.
According to the daily, Hariri is expected to tackle in his speech the Future movement’s principles in light of the Syrian crisis, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and Lebanon’s relationships with international powers.
The sources concluded by saying that Hariri will also be tackling “Lebanon’s strategic relationship” with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Saudi grant to the Lebanese army.
Sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday that the first stage of the dialogue between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces will end with a meeting between the leaders of the two parties at Rabieh.
The same sources added that FPM leader MP Michel Aoun and LF chief Samir Geagea will read a “Declaration of Intent” stating what both leaders hope to do or achieve.
According to the daily, MP Aoun will also pay a visit to Geagea at Maarab.
Sources told As-Safir newspaper on Thursday that the Future Movement leader former PM Saad Hariri and Future bloc leader MP Fouad Siniora contacted MP Khaled el-Daher and asked him to backtrack on the statements made by him from the Tripoli’s Al-Nour Square on Sunday. The same sources added that MP el-Daher suspended his Future bloc membership in order not to cause any embarrassment to the bloc, adding that the bloc did not ask him to do so.
