Iran’s Ambassador to Syria Mohammad Rida Raouf Chibany told
As Safir Daily that his country supports the Eid al-Adha truce between the Syrian regime and the rebels, and any other step that could put an end to the violence leading to a political solution.
Chibany added that a Turkish-Syrian war is unlikely to happen, stressing that Turkey’s internal and external conditions do not allow it to take such escalatory actions.
The Iranian Ambassador also revealed that Tehran is providing Syria with different kinds of aids, especially energy wise.
According to Chibany, Iran has presented a plan for a political solution in Syria divided into 5 steps:
- Cessation of violence
- Establishing security
- Holding a national dialogue
- Holding parliamentary elections with the participation of all political parties
- Formation of a national unity government in conformity with the composition of the parliament
Chibany emphasized that Iran is in contact with opposition parties that
believe in national dialogue and a political solution.

close to Prime Minister Najib Mikati told
As Safir daily that UN
special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi does not have a clear action plan
for the Syrian crisis, as he only has suggestions that might work out
if the Adha ceasefire is effective.
The sources added that
Brahimi’s action plan will be based on information he is collecting from
the countries he is currently visiting.
In this
context, and according to the daily, Brahimi questioned Mikati about the
Syrian refugees’ situation in Lebanon and the measures the Lebanese
authorities are taking to solve this issue.
For his part,
Mikati stressed that the situation reached its peak point and that
Lebanon will be in need of International aid to provide necessary
help for the refugees.
An-Nahar
Daily published on Thursday that the ministerial discussions to finance
the salaries and ranks scale are still on hold because the treasury will find difficulties in financing the project and therefore
alternative sources for income must be provided.
The Daily
added that the main reason behind the postponement of the law’s
endorsement is the retirement pensions that could threaten financial
stability if paid all at once.
In this context,
ministerial sources reported to the Daily that the abstention from
referring the scale’s law to the parliament to be ratified would’ve have
caused the postponement of the cabinet’s session. However, the
ministers agreed on 90% of the suggested tax list and discussed the
numbers of each proposal.
Ministerial
sources told
Al Akhbar Daily that the cabinet has not endorsed the
ranks and salaries scale law yet because it’s being cautious about
probable repercussions that could affect the monetary and economic
situations.
The sources added that Central Bank Governor Riad
Salameh will be participating in the cabinet's session on the 31st of October
2012.
Salameh will be giving his opinion on the dangers of financing
the ranks and salaries scale and its influence on the exchange rate and
inflation.
Political sources told
Al-Mustaqbal Daily that Iraqi
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki predicted that with the international
pressures increasing, the Assad regime will fall with the end of 2012.
The sources said that Maliki expects that Assad will be replaced
within the upcoming two months. Maliki added that efforts are being
exerted to ensure a peaceful transition of power in Syria.
The
sources also revealed that Maliki told UN special envoy to Syria Lakhdar
Brahimi a few days ago that a ceasefire between the Syrian regime
and the rebels is crucial.
