Lavrov says Russia handed over Lebanon satellite images related to Beirut Port explosion - [VIDEO]
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that Russia handed over Lebanon images captured by its satellites and related to the Beirut Port explosion.

Lavrov’s comments were made during a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib after talks in Moscow.

“At the request of the Lebanese government, today we handed satellite images prepared by Roscosmos, and we hope that these materials will help in the investigation of the causes of the explosion,” he added.

"This problem is getting a lot of attention in Lebanon right now, and we hope it may be resolved," Lavrov told reporters.

Lavrov also noted that discussions tackled “possible prospects for the participation of Russian economic entities in repairing the infrastructure that was destroyed as a result of the explosion in the port of Beirut."

He also mentioned a project carried out by a Russian oil company to deliver hydrocarbons to the port of Beirut, adding that Russian companies want to rebuild the infrastructure and that such a decision is in the hands of the Lebanese.

Lavrov concluded by stressing his confidence in Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s ability to establish stability in Lebanon, noting that "it is necessary to resolve internal issues through dialogue and strengthen cooperation."

For his part, Foreign Minister  Bou Habib said that he received the satellite images of the port from Russia, adding that he will hand them over to the Lebanon's judiciary "in hope that they would contribute to uncovering the truth."
He pointed out from Moscow that there are permanent consultations with the Gulf countries to reach a dialogue, stressing that the case of Information Minister Georges Kordahi is not the only one."
In the context of showcasing the problems that Lebanon suffers from, Bou Habib announced a request for assistance from Russia directly and through Moscow's regional friends to find solutions to the country's problems.
