Syria announces severance of diplomatic relations with Kyiv
Syria announced in Wednesday the severance of diplomatic relations with Kyiv in accordance with the principle of "reciprocity."
 
This step comes weeks after Ukraine took the same step following the Syrian government's recognition of the independence of the pro-Russian separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, its most prominent supporter.
 
According to the official news agency "SANA," a source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the decision to sever diplomatic ties with Ukraine was made in accordance with the principle of reciprocity and in response to the decision made by the Ukrainian government in this regard.
 
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced the severance of relations with Syria on June 29.
