Netflix series “The Recruit” displays the beauty of Beirut in a love letter
Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, is known as a cosmopolitan city, displaying a rich culture and lovely locals. Despite being often described as a dangerous city in movies, the new Netflix CIA adventure series “The Recruit” wrote a “love letter” to Beirut.
 
Starring Noah Centineo, the creator of the action series, Alexi Hawley, told Variety that two of his writers were Lebanese-American. 
 
“Because that happened, I am like, well, let us go to Beirut. Again, most genres treat “other” as “bad.” It is always about the terrorists or that kind of stuff. And Beirut, as an example, has always been portrayed as this nightmare place where everybody is getting killed,” he revealed. 
 
” I felt like because we have these two writers in the room who both have experienced, how do we send two Americans there and not make it look like the traditional thing,” Hawley added. 
 
In Episode 3, the two writers displayed a “love letter” to Beirut, in which Colton Dunn, who plays the role of Lester, describes how he loves Beirut, and the “ski after breakfast,” the “swim in the Mediterranean,” the food, and the nightlife. 
 
“Nobody does live and let live like the Lebanese,” Lester said while highlighting the corruption of the Political class and how the Lebanese people do not deserve such treatment. 
 
After watching the episode, many Lebanese headed to social media to reflect on their pride and joy to see their country represented positively despite all the circumstances.
