Blast, gunfire heard in Somali capital - witness

A loud explosion was heard near the centre of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday, followed by bursts of gunfire, a Reuters witness said.

A plume of black smoke billowed into the sky above the city which has been hit by a series of suicide bomb attacks in the past few weeks and claimed by al Qaeda-linked militants who were pushed out of the city about two years go.
