Indian authorities confirmed Monday that some 600 people had died, declaring that 5748 people, presumed dead, remain missing after the devastating floods that struck north of the country in June .

The president of the Government of Uttarakhand state, hardest hit by the bad weather and landslides caused by the early rainy season, explained that the measures of financial compensations to the families of the victims will begin tomorrow (Tuesday) after they are considered among the deceased.

The value of financial assistance will reach approximately 500,000 rupees ($8350; £ 5528) per person.

According to the government, the temple town of Kedarnath located in the mostly affected area, will not receive pilgrims for at least a year.
