Saudi security forces withdraw from Shia villages on Ashura

Witnesses told AFP that armored vehicles transporting anti-riot forces towards Dammam city have pulled out overnight Sunday from Shweika and Awamiya villages in the Eastern Province, the scene of intense clashes between protesters and security forces, killing 3 Shia young men.

Saudi legal sources said that this withdrawal aims at easing tensions and prevent direct contact during Ashura ceremonies.
