A Muslim-only beauty pageant was held in the Nigerian city of Jakarta where participants were judged on their looks in addition to their ability to recite verses from the Quran.

Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola, 21, a contestant wearing a headscarf and stilettos won the beauty pageant and collected a prize of 25 million rupiah (£1,375) and trips to India and Mecca, the holiest city of Islam and a pilgrimage site.

The contestants answered a series of online questions about their relationship with Islam, including when they first began wearing the headscarf, which is considered a requirement for the beauty pageant.

20 finalists from six countries, including Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nigeria competed in a contest that was dubbed as the "non-violent' answer to the Miss World pageant condemned by Islamic hardliners.

In recent weeks, thousand rallied against Indonesia hosting the Miss World pageant set to be held in Jakarta on the 28th of September, now moved to the island of Bali amid tight security measures.

Miss World contestants will not be wearing bikinis which will be replaced by sarongs in accordance with the "what the public wants", Indonesia's coordinating minister for people's welfare, Angung Laksono, said
