Gunmen shoot dead naval officer in Libya's Benghazi
      
Unknown assailants shot dead a naval officer in Libya's Benghazi on Wednesday, a security official told AFP.        

"Gunmen opened fire at navy Captain Saleh al-Houdheiry, killing him instantly," security service spokesman Abdullah al-Zayedi said.          

Zayedi also reported that Houdheiry was dropping off his son at the Benghazi medical school when the attack occurred, noting that the officer's son was severely injured and is in intensive care.          

On Sunday, three army and police officers were killed in separate attacks in the restive eastern city.            

The city of Benghazi, the cradle of the 2011 uprising that ousted former dictator Moamar Kadhafi, has witnessed a wave of assassinations targeting officers in the security services.
